Urge individuals to pose inquiries. Keep down your motivations; oppose the enticement for (any) fast answer.Leading with questions is a greeting for everybody to think. The magnificence lies in the questionHow individuals manage questions says a great deal regar ding your hierarchical culture. As I watch helping groups become progressively inventive, the organizations that oppose change the most will in general ask not very many questions.A increasingly self-governing working environment is testing power-driven' officials - they dread their mastery and authority can lose significance. That is the reason they don't empower disagree - they secure their situations by possessing the appropriate responses. In any case, giving insight is a progressively viable method of remaining pertinent - that is the intensity of questions.Wise pioneers don't profess to know everything - they are open to testing their own suspicions. Intelligence, similar to initiative, isn't characterized by a title. We all need answers. Be that as it may, astute individuals urge us to discover arrangements on our own terms. They mentor us to pose better inquiries - the magnificence of critical thinking lies in the journey.Wise pioneers challenge individuals to look past letha rgic arrangements. The creator of A Beautiful Question, authored that term to allude to an impetus that can reveal change and possibilities.Berger centers around questions that can be followed up on. Excellent inquiries are not just about you; they help acknowledge others' problems.Brainstorming questions, not thoughts, constrains us to concentrate on better understanding the issue, instead of hopping into the arrangements. For what reason does the difficult exist? What does it say about our organization? Is there an increasingly critical issue behind it that we are missing?Brainstorming questions assists individuals with diving further into an issue - comprehending the correct test begins by testing the issue itself.3. At times, less complex inquiries can discover arrangements behind the norm - the fallen angel is in the det ails. Why do we need children to sit still in class?Curiosity is tied in with testing our day by day reality - what others acknowledge as 'ordinary,' you transform it into an inquiry. A report from the Institute of Medicine presumed that dynamic youngsters show more prominent consideration, have quicker intellectual handling speed and perform better.Turn posing inquiries into progressing practice. A culture of interest likewise use the intensity of calm individuals - contemplative people feel progressively great posing inquiries that sharing their thoughts out loud.4. Mentor individuals to ask better questionsOur cerebrum likes to pose sluggish inquiries - we substitute inquiries with simpler ones to spare vitality and time. As Nobel laureate and analyst Daniel Kahneman clarifies: When confronted with a troublesome inquiry, we frequently answer a simpler one rather, as a rule without seeing the substitution. How would we be able to play better? versus What's driving our success?Don't center around the positive. Individuals are less inclined to lie when examiners make skeptical suppositions versus idealistic ones, as various investigations show.Avoid shut inquiries; they compel us to choose between existing alternatives. Imperfect inquiries make us settle for lethargic answers - some of the time the best arrangement is to unanswer the inquiry, as I composed here.Encourage your group to challenge the inquiries - don't make due with sluggish problems.5. Use inquiries to support transparencyEvery individual in your association is a sensor. The speeding up organizations require focusing on each sign - when an issue makes it to the top, it may be past the point where it is possible to fix it.What is everybody thinking except nobody is saying?A culture that urges individuals to pose inquiries expands correspondence, coordinated effort, and straightforwardness. 5 Ways to Negotiate Salary Requirements
5 Ways to Negotiate Salary Requirements 5 Ways to Negotiate Salary Requirements You'll never have this much arranging power than you do after tolerating an offer. Follow these tips to get the best pay bundle upfront. With the economy in such ruins, numerous competitors accept bosses are in little state of mind or position to haggle on a beginning remuneration bundle. It's normal to think, On the off chance that I don't acknowledge their first offer, there are six different competitors outside the entryway who'll be happy to acknowledge any offer.Don't accept that that is the case.I as of late talked with Jack Chapman, pay master and creator of Arranging Your Salary : How to Make $1000 per Minute, about how to use your arranging capacity to its best advantage. Here are five simple strategies he emphasized:1. Recognize what you're worth in your geography.Well before you meet, do your compensation look into. Assemble outside data on the present market estimation of your position. Valid Internet assets for this data incorporate Salary.com, Payscale.com, Jobstar.org an d Indeed.com. Their apparatuses should give you a decent market rate for the pay of friends in your situation in your nearby area.2. Adapt what you do.If you need pay, show how you'll repay the organization by achiev ing its objectives. Be set up to sell degree of profitability : How will you make or set aside the organization cash? It's that straightforward. Be prepared to refer to explicit circumstances where you have added to the primary concern, and plan to clarify how your models identify with the position you're being advertised. Since you should as of now have talked about ROI in your meeting, it ought to be anything but difficult to review those models during pay dealings. Cash talks, and it attempts for your potential benefit to have a few sections on your side of the record before you negotiate.3. Delay it. Generally, remuneration is the last component talked about in the meeting. Thinking about the present economy, be that as it may, a few questioners may bounce the weapo n and attempt to test you for a figure from the get-go in the game. On the off chance that this occurs, you'll need to defer that discussion. Chapman suggests rehearsing a particular expression that you can use to defer compensation exchange should this circumstance arise.Whatever you state, however, it shouldn't sound canned, too cutesy or excessively practiced. When asked the pay inquiry right on time, here is a model Chapman recommends you may attempt. Don't hesitate to adjust it to your own tastes:I'd love to converse with you about it, however would i be able to ask you this ? The pay I'm requesting may not actually coordinate your figure, however I'm adaptable. I wouldn't be screened out of a meeting only for pay, would I?This is one approach to return it on them by posing an inquiry that will be difficult for them to dismiss out of hand.Another procedure Chapman recommends utilizing is reframing the needs. For instance, when gotten some information about pay right off the bat in the meeting, react this current way:That's truly Number Three on my need list. My Number One need is to ensure that we can cooperate. Number Two is to ensure my ROI covers my compensation in any event three to multiple times over. What's more, Number Three is the genuine pay number. While I'm glad to discuss pay, might we be able to focus on Number One first?4. Utilize the enchantment four-letter word When you're at last prepared to address the pay, you can either let the organization start it or you can be the person who goes first. Chapman recommends that you let the other party go first in case you're worried about security. Something else, go first and lead with a high number since it's consistently simpler to bring down than up.Once you hear that figure, Chapman likewise recommends reacting with a four-letter word. That enchantment word is, Gee you contrast the figure they gave you and your recently investigated figure. React with your looked into reaction. Keep in mind, you've just advocated your incentive by this point. What's more, you definitely realize the similar range organizations are at present paying others to play out this function.5. Remember the perks. If they can't discover the dollars to pay you in advance, remember what Chapman calls chance f actor dollars. This is an ideal opportunity to arrange those non-money things, similar to downtime, flex hours, telecommute and some other regions you'd prefer to put on the table. Survey all the advantages and advantages that you can. You will likely arrange the most ideal remuneration bundle. Keep in mind, they as of now need you. Presently you're simply arranging your cost. Try not to be hesitant to put the most significant components forward for discussion.Your arranging force will never be this high again. When you've left all necessary signatures, your second has passed, so utilize this chance to your best advantage.SummaryThe key point to recall is that as up-and-comers, we have a similar measure of intensity in compensation arrangements whether we're utilized or jobless. While it's actual we believe we have less influence in the present market, an excessive number of competitors yield their capacity by tolerating the primary offer given. Take some additional time before your meeting to utilize these five hints and you'll more probable have a bigger result at long last.

Working from Home - Copeland Coaching
Working from Home Working from home always sounded like a dream. It was this amazing concept that you heard about on TV that people in California did. You always wished you could try for a few days a week. I guess this is what they mean when they say, be careful what you wish for. Here we are working from home, playing from home, schooling from home, and everything else-ing from home. At least theres no commute. But, working from home isnt as great when its not a choice. But, lets try to make the best of it. We may be here for a while. So, what can you do to effectively work at home? For starters, find a space that you can designate for work. If youre lucky, you may have an office or an extra bedroom. Or, you may want to designate a space like your dining room table. If you have a house with a garage, you may even want to temporarily turn your garage into an office. This is the time to get creative. Once youve found your space, set it up. At a minimum, youll likely need a table, a desk, and your computer. If you have them, a printer and an external monitor can also be very helpful. Keep your office supplies nearby, including paper, pens, headphones, and anything else you may need. Take the time to set up your new home office in a way that is enjoyable to you. You will be spending a lot of time there. After you setup your home office, its time to use it. Start out by creating a schedule for yourself. One of the most important components to successfully working from home is routine. Try to start working at the same time every day. Set aside time to eat lunch, and possibly for breaks. And, finish at a reasonable time. Try not to spend every waking hour sitting and working, as this could lead to burnout. Look for ways to stay connected to colleagues. One of our biggest hurdles when working from home is how to stay relevant at work without being too much. In other words, without sending too many emails or making too many phone calls. Over time, work to develop a routine. Try to stay in touch with coworkers and management without wasting time, but while still creating a human connection. Dont forget to ask how people are really doing. When you open up, youll learn that your coworkers are just as stressed and as afraid as you are. Theyre also trying to figure out how to keep their spouse, pets, and kids out of their workspace. Theyre also worried about their parents. Theyre also running low on toilet paper. Working from home is an adjustment, even under normal circumstances. Virtual companies share that it takes months for working from home to become normal and routine. Youre in good company. I hope these tips have helped you. Visit CopelandCoaching.com to find more tips to improve your job search. If I can be of assistance to you, donât hesitate to reach out to me here. Resume Goal Statements
<h1>Resume Goal Statements</h1><p>Work objective explanations, expected set of responsibilities objectives and prospect objective articulations are a portion of the basic resume objective proclamations that a great many people write in their activity profiles. In any case, comprehend that every one has its own significance and reason. Let us take a gander at the absolute most ideal manners by which you can improve the nature of your statements.</p><p></p><p>Job objective articulations are essentially an outline of your inclinations and aspirations for a long time to come. Then again, vocation target articulations can be utilized to express your basic beliefs and give a concise diagram of the territories where you have a premium and a longing for another course. Prospect objective explanations, then again, are less point by point and ought to be centered around a specific theme or a particular zone of core interest. It is in every case best to underscore the most significant part of your objective.</p><p></p><p>One of the most ideal approaches to improve the nature of your resume objective proclamations is to guarantee that you don't put a lot of accentuation on one angle or other. When composing these kinds of articulations, don't over-blow up what you need from the work. On the off chance that you attempt to express the entirety of your wants in a solitary sentence, it might appear as though you are talking excessively and individuals will lose enthusiasm for your statements.</p><p></p><p>Ensure that your first sentence is as brief as could reasonably be expected. Utilize short sentences that don't contain pointless subtleties and attempt to utilize 'I' articulations, rather than 'we' proclamations. This is significant in light of the fact that it shows to the peruser that you are tending to yourself in your announcement. By utilizing 'I', you are standing up for yourself as the individual behind the announcement and this will assist you with accomplishing your objective.</p><p></p><p>Consider what the best first point that individuals will peruse in your resume is. Typically the primary sentence is the thing that a great many people will register out before looking with the remainder of the data. It is fitting to incorporate a start of your vocation target explanation and a start of your profession objective statement.</p><p></p><p>The last interesting point is to stress your profession target proclamation with models from your own understanding. At the point when you incorporate past encounters, it enables the peruser to comprehend what you need for them later on. A model would be, 'I will probably build up myself as a dependable wellspring of qualified, solid business leads'. Keep in mind, it is smarter to have models than simply something unclear that may seem as though void promises.</p>< p></p><p>People are commonly increasingly keen on observing instances of your accomplishments as opposed to something that sounds unreasonable. You should put your abilities and gifts at the bleeding edge of your announcements. Keep in mind, your objective ought not be to misrepresent. It ought to be something you trust in and ought to have solid proof to help it.</p><p></p><p>When composing your resume objective proclamations, ensure that you put the most significant focuses at the front and underscore them to the perusers. Continuously attempt to pressure the regions where you believe you will exceed expectations in.</p>

Give Your Career Direction - Build Your Link with Your Recruitment Consultant
Give Your Career Direction - Build Your Link with Your Recruitment Consultant Give Your Career Direction - Build Your Link with Your Recruitment Consultant 14 Oct 2014 Karen Kerr As Principal Consultant for Financial Services recruitment, Karen Kerr knows more than most about the benefits of a long-term consultant-candidate relationship. With more than 14 years of experience in her field, in this article Karen discusses what candidates can do to strengthen their link with their recruitment consultant, and encourage growth in their career. 1. Communicate honestly I really appreciate it when candidates tell me what their long-term career goals are, and exactly why they are looking for a new role at the moment. It helps me to know, for example, that although they would like to be considered for the opportunity currently, in a year or a few yearsâ time, they will be looking for further progression. Itâs important to be entirely honest with the recruiter youâre working with. You may be entirely open to suggestions of roles, but there is no harm in telling them if something isnât quite right for you, or you would prefer to wait to hear of different opportunities later on. Itâs also imperative that you stay in communication with them. Keep in touch and keep them updated when it comes to new responsibilities you have gained in your role, new skills you have learned, or interviews that you have been invited to, even if the recruiter isnât the one who secured them for you. All of these will help your consultant to build a better understanding of who you are, where you would be best suited and which roles would be ideal to be aiming for. Bernard Madure is someone I have had the pleasure of placing in a number of roles, and who has demonstrated the great opportunities that arise when everyone is on the same page about what the future should hold. He said: âI was successfully placed in two roles and my current position, which is the place I desired to be, is more than I could have asked for. This is a position where I can develop into a thorough investment professional. Karen was very helpful and very proactive in securing me an interview. Her knowledge of the market and also the available opportunities went a very long way in getting me the role Iâm in now.â Communication is, of course, a two way street â" of course you want to make sure the consultant knows everything they possibly can about you, but make sure you take time to listen to their industry insights, specific company knowledge and expert advice on your CV and interview tactics. 2. Know your box, but look outside of it too Itâs so important to know your industry intricately. Having that knowledge of what the key issues are and exciting trends as well as a great baseline understanding of competitors and new players shows that you mean business and are here to be taken seriously. This includes knowing the roles you are suitable for inside out, however, itâs also important to be flexible and be willing to be repositioned in the industry if thatâs what your consultant thinks would be the best thing for your career. You might have the perfect skills for a role you would love, but if you lack flexibility and willingness to try new things, then you simply wouldnât hear about it. What I want most is to fit great candidates in roles where theyâll be happy, the company will love them and they will make a difference, and a slight shift in understanding in terms of available roles and suitability is sometimes all it takes to make this happen. 3. True passion When a candidate comes to me with true passion for their industry or role, it makes it so much easier to get them to where they want to be. It has to be organic, which is why the previous two points are key. In knowing what opportunities you are aiming for in life, and communicating them to me honestly, it gives me a true appreciation of what your passion is in life and how it is that I can make a difference to your career. Stuart Taylor is a key example of what interest and passion for an industry can do for your career if communicated well â" I have now placed him in four roles throughout his career. âFrom my first job placement, Karen was very approachable considering my âgreenâ nature to the job market and inexperience on where to pitch my skills. Karen managed me through this very well and has led me to return to her when I have been looking for new roles.â Always remember that a career is a journey that can be incredibly exciting, but sometimes daunting â" to get where you want to be, make sure youâre working with those who can help you to the best of your ability. Karen Kerr is Principal Consultant for our Financial Services division. How to Create an Effective Engineering Intern Resume
How to Create an Effective Engineering Intern ResumeIf you're looking for a way to get your foot in the door at an engineering internship, then your engineering intern resume is your ticket to a great job. Unfortunately, not all engineering intern resumes are created equal and you'll need to take the time to create one that will stand out among the rest. You want to make sure that you put together a unique and eye-catching engineering internship resume that will make your intern interviewing experience memorable. The reason that a lot of engineers pass up an internship is because they don't think it's worth their time. That's where you can help them out by ensuring that you have one that is not only impressive but will also stand out in the crowd. When it comes to creating an engineering intern resume, the first thing you need to keep in mind is that there are some major differences between an engineering internship resume and one that a commercial or corporate human resources departme nt would use. A standard resume is what you get when you apply for a position in an engineering company. An engineering intern resume, on the other hand, is designed for people who are looking to gain the attention of potential employers as interns in the field. The first and most important aspect of your engineering intern resume is your objective. This will be your specific objective for interning in the field, such as 'Computer Software Engineer,' 'Internship For Senior Software Engineers,' or whatever the case may be. The objective section should be exactly what the employer is looking for and should include a brief description of the intern's talents and abilities.Next, you'll want to make sure that you explain any previous work experience you have while on your engineering intern resume. You want to provide references that show how you've performed in previous internships. These references should be listed under 'Other References'References Provided by Employer.'The last thing you need to do is to craft an impressive description of yourself and your academic background. You want to make sure that you provide a brief introduction about yourself, including your name, email address, school, and a little bit about your academic background. It's also helpful to use personal pronouns when referring to you, such as 'you'he' and the names of places you've lived. It's especially helpful to use a personalized term, such as 'Professor X,' when describing yourself as an engineer intern.Remember that having a resume is just a starting point and you still need to have a professional and successful job interview. You want to put yourself out there by making a good impression during your interview. You want to make sure that you end the interview on a positive note, after showing your interviewer that you have what it takes to become a successful engineering intern. While a successful engineering intern resume can get you noticed, you still need to remember that you must be able to deliver on your part of the deal, the one that will attract a potential employer. With a little work, you can create a high-quality engineering intern resume that will get you noticed and that will make a real difference in the outcome of your potential internship.

What I did with my summer #2 My Embassy Internship University of Manchester Careers Blog
What I did with my summer #2 My Embassy Internship University of Manchester Careers Blog Interested in diplomatic career? Apply for an internship at the Embassy! Petra tells us her story As a second year student of Middle Eastern Studies and Middle Eastern Languages I was always interested in traveling, politics and international relations. The most suitable internship I could think of was at the Embassy. People often assume contacts are needed in order to get a placement there but it is not true. The application process Having e-mailed few Embassies of the Czech Republic around the world I received different responses. For instance some countries were rejecting applications this year due to the security situation in the Middle East. A positive response came around February from our Ambassador to Turkey, Mgr. Pavel Kafka who liked my motivation letter and CV. He suggested I apply officially through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It took two months and after completing some paperwork my one month summer internship in Ankara was secured. What is it like working in an Embassy? From my first day I was assigned an advisor consul PhDr. Maria Opelová, CSc. who became the core person throughout my internship and a nice big office was given to me. During my stay in Ankara, I was introduced to the system of the Embassy, got an insight to all departments (economic, political, consular, diplomatic, etc.) and wrote many research papers on my own or in a team. Some of the topics were: Turkish approach to refugees, The United Cyprus Federation negotiations, prison system, Gazprom and Turkish stream, Kurdish nationalism in Turkey and many others. One of my main duties was to keep up with the news and inform the department if there were any developments with the formation of coalition or Turkish-Kurdish peace process. I was following Turkish sources as I can read the language which was often very handy. I was also making translations of visa documents from Czech to Turkish that were being checked by a professional and a feedback was given to me. July was the month of Erasmus students applying for visas to go to the Czech Republic for the fall semester. I was in charge of Erasmus e-mail translation as well. The most exciting part of my internship was the fact that Turkey went through parliamentary election in June, a month before I arrived. Also, July was a transitive period when the coalition could not be formed, Turkish-Kurdish peace process was proclaimed non-functioning anymore and violence escalated throughout the whole country. As a turning point of my internship I consider the explosion in Sanliurfa, for which we became source number one for the Czech media covering it. It was exciting to receive a phone call from the Ministry of Foreign Affairsâ Press department asking about my opinion on the issue. So what next? I enjoyed my internship as it gave me precious experiences, memories and I met interesting people. You should make the most of your internship as well and try to understand the workplace as much as you can with the reference to your field of study. I learned to be responsible, assertive, work to deadlines and under pressure. Moreover, most of the material I worked on were possible dissertation topics thus it was a good start for my final year research. The internship also made me think of a diplomatic career for the future and helped me to shape my masters degrees plans. Paid or unpaid? How to finance your internship Donât be afraid of getting an unpaid internship. It has got the same value in your CV as paid ones. If you think you canât afford it search for Work Experience Bursary at Careers or contact the University for more support as I did. Salary Negotiation is a lot Like Monopoly
Salary Negotiation is a lot Like Monopoly Today while one of my clients and I were discussing his salary negotiation strategy, he had an ah ha moment. He said You know, salary negotiation is a lot like monopoly! I liked the analogy so much Ive decided to expand on it on the Career Solvers blog. Remember when we were kids playing Monopoly and we got to the point in the game where we needed to trade property or offer money in order to make a monopoly? We had to decide what we needed to do to stay in the game and then we had to work cooperatively with the other players to make it happen. Well, when you negotiate your compensation and benefits package with a potential employer the process is very similar. First, you need to establish trust and credibility and establish rapport to convince the other party that they are making the right decision. Next you have to consider your priorities and decide what you really want and what you are willing to give up. Finally you must create a win-win situation where both parties feel satisfie d when the deal is sealed. So next time you are in the middle of a negotiation conversation, think carefully about what you are willing to give up to get that Broadway or Park Place card that you need in order to make a monopoly. Enjoy the game!

Discovering Your Value Proposition - The Elevator Pitch, Part I -
Discovering Your Value Proposition - The Elevator Pitch, Part I - Have you written your elevator pitch? Otherwise known as your value proposition or a personal infomercial, this is a brief (some say 2-minutes, I like 30 seconds) introduction to you with a focus on what you have to offer. This technique is used all of the time in sales and marketing, and since your job search is all about marketing YOU, having a well practiced, targeted elevator pitch is a good idea. (The name comes from the fact that you could deliver your speech while going down an elevator with a great contact. I guess the length may depend on the height of the building! Since most people have a pretty short attention span, assume most buildings are short.) Just as your resume should be targeted to the readers needs instead of your own needs, your pitch should focus on how you can solve a problem for the listener. What do you offer? What is your hook? Discovering Your Hook What is special about you? What skills and accomplishments set you apart from every other person in the room? In your industry? You need to know two things: What the employer wants. What you offer. You will find out the employers needs via research, informational meetings and networking. Discovering what you have to offer may take longer! Big brands like Disney decide what they offer before they create and place their advertisements. When they want to advertise Disney World, they appeal to families and parents need for an affordable, yet magical vacation. Their brand is all about magic and family fun. Their television ads appear on shows with a high viewership of people Disney targets. If Disney didnt consider what they offer, they wouldnt be able to target their marketing. By defining themselves and what problem they solve, they can offer a hook (an affordable family vacation). What is brand YOU all about? What makes you special and unique? Think about what you offer an employer. Consider your top five work and personal accomplishments. Write them down and think them over. Read more about writing your elevator pitch

Equal Pay Day Why the Wage Gap Still Exists in 2018
Equal Pay Day Why the Wage Gap Still Exists in 2018 Women are sick and tired of talking about the gender wage gap. The persistent issue has plagued women and particularly women of color for decades â" so much so that there was an official Equal Pay Day established in 1996. But despite the growing #MeToo movement and increased attention on the equal pay disparity, research shows little progression on closing the gender wage gap. Over the last 10 years, the gender wage gap has seen little change. Indeed, between 2016 and 2017, the gap for full-time workers with weekly salaries actually grew wider by 0.1 percentage points, according to the Institute for Womenâs Policy and Research. The numbers for full-time workers with annual salaries isnât expected to budge, either. In fact, much of the progress made on equal pay and closing the wage disparity over the years happened in the 1980s and 1990s. Between 2008 and 2017, however, it has only decreased by 2 percentage points. âBasically, progress in closing the wage gap has really slowed down,â said Ariane Hegewisch, program director for employment and earnings at the Institute for Womenâs Policy Research. The most recent research shows women in the United States make $0.80 on the dollar compared to their male counterparts, according to the Institute for Womenâs Policy and Research. That gap is wider for black and hispanic women, who earn 62.5% and 54.4%, respectively, of the paychecks their male colleagues receive. Every year, advocates talk about closing the gender wage gap on Equal Pay Day â" which falls on April 10 this year â" and pull out these numbers to show the scope of the issue. But that strategy is getting exhausting and at this rate, pay parity wonât be achieved until 2059. âFrankly, I am tired of talking about 80 cents on the dollar,â said Kimberly Churches, the CEO of the American Association of University Women. âI donât want to get out the violin again and talk about how weâre stalled on this process.â The U.S. is far behind some countries in the European Union and others have created policies pegged at creating more pay transparency. Sweden, Finland and Norway, for example, have taken this philosophy a step further by making everyoneâs tax returns available upon request. âPay transparency is important in order to promote gender-neutral wage-setting structures,â a April 2017 report from the European Commission detailing these practices said. There are a host of factors contribute to the gender wage gap, including occupational segregation. That means there is little integration between male- and female-dominated occupations, including the male-centric jobs like construction or software development. Though itâs just one example of how the gender wage gap continues, advocates and female leaders are pushing for policies and initiatives that can help create a culture shift in workplaces that would pave the way for pay parity. In a number of cities, companies are now barred from asking prospective employees about their salary history â" a move intended to halt the continuation of paying people, especially women, a smaller wage. Another initiative focuses on pay transparency within companies, so employees can be better leverage themselves in negotiations and hold their employers more accountable. Those are some of the pushes Churches said the AAUW will be focused on. âYouâre not going to hear AAUW talk about, âWhoa was me, weâre still 80 cents on the dollar,ââ Churches said. âYouâre going to hear much more from us about what are the solutions to achieve parity quickly.â But the onus to change company policies by making more payroll audits or bringing more diversity into boardrooms really falls on business leaders and politicians. Advocates point to the latter as vital for creating more equal workplaces for women overall â" especially in wake of this national conversation about sexual harassment in the workplace. âI think the concern I have is that it is in everybodyâs power and agency to make a little change,â said Andrea Jung, the CEO of Grameen America, a microfinance business that helps women who live in poverty. âTo wait for who? Wait for the CEO? Wait for the head of HR? Wait for policy? Weâre going to be waiting forever.â And to achieve that action, women will continue to spread awareness about the wage gap and how it can be closed. âIâm tired of talking about it, 30 years in, but thatâs OK,â said Patty McCord, an author and former Netflix chief talent officer credited for disrupting workplace culture in Silicon Valley. âWeâll keep talking about it.â

The 3 Types of Cubicles
The 3 Types of CubiclesIve worked in a menagerie of cube environments. The closely packed closet-sized bullpen, the waist-high pens, the shoulder-height screens, the office with an actual DOOR, the glorified conference room with an open plan. and at different times, I have made all of the choices discussed by Ceren Cubukcu over at PersonalBrandingBlog. So whats going on in your cube? Is it the image you want to project to your office? The Blank and Bare CubicleMaybe it is a haven of Zen-centered calm, maybe youre just on the quiet side, but also maybe youre a serial killer. Or as Ceren puts it much more nicely, a bare space may be sending the message that youre new, not planning to stay long, or halfway out the door already (impending departure is the only reason I have ever had a clean desk, ever).Ifyoure easily distracted, or prefer to keep your personal life separateI get it But perhapstheres a picture or two you could hang up just to give your eyes somewhere to rest and reassure yo ur neighbor that youre not a flight risk. The Fun CubicleThis was ALWAYS me. At once point, at my first job, I had an entire wall of Mets paraphernalia, a zen jupe garden, a candy bowl that I had painted, a ninja turtle, two modern art calendars, a slinky, a couple of beanie babies, and pictures of my family, my cat, and the Manhattan skyline (which could be seen from any conference room window). At the time I thought it showed coworkers that I was fun and friendly and encouraged people to stop by and chat. Also it kept my easily distracted brain moving forward, somewhat counter-intuitively, by giving me things to fidget with. But in retrospect it also made me look immature and unfocused (plus, after a few months, the candy bowls presence was seriously compromised by the coffee breath of the office rambler). So by all means, make your desk a reflection of who you arebut a gentle, tasteful reflection. The sticky note Notes CubicleThis is the high-powered cube of a person with a plan. Or an action-packed schedule. Or a workaholism issue. To avoid a cube that looks like the shed of a conspiracy theorist, consider breaking up your organizational tools with more personal photos or restrict the planning to a whiteboard or bulletin board. There are also some great apps that may help you translate your paper clutter to digital clutterand integrate it into your calendar too
